Award-winning independent film writer and director Conrad J. Ewing has a problem! Since making his 90's breakout indie comedy Pizza Man, chronicling the late-night antics of a dopey New York City delivery guy who winds up on the wrong side of the mob, everything has been going Conrad's way... until his manager decides it's time to "trade up" and fire him from a big summer tentpole movie! Now, Conrad's out on his own! With the help of his loyal assistant, can he go back to his indie roots and show them all?
Making the GAMP is not that movie.
Conrad may see himself as the self-made hero of his own indie success story, but like so many of Hollywood's "golden boys" his fame is supported by a system of exploitation. What will Conrad do to reclaim the power that was taken from him? Whatever it takes.
Making the GAMP is an intervention, and an honest appraisal of our failures as a community in the hope that collectively, we will decide this is as far as we are willing to fall. Nothing about this film will be easy, from the physical making of it to the uncomfortable laughs and awkward silences we share with festival audiences. Let's eliminate the shadow in which our failures find refuge.
This is a film we will be making for our colleagues in film rather than for a general audience, and to make this movie we will need the help and support of our entire community. If you're reading this, you will get the call. If you don't want to wait, or if you'd like to see the current draft of the script, please send an email to email@example.com.
Once the business of producing and screening Making the GAMP is behind us, our ensemble of 8 Sided Players will move forward with the first of many seasonal slates of feature film production built on classical performance and our love of nerdy, genre storytelling. Our plan is to give Hollywood an example of sustainability that rests on the values of excellence in craft and strength in community, and to renew our commitment to those labors, ethics, and habits that have always supported the growth of showbusiness.
